Cytoprotective and ulcer-healing actions: Emblica officinalis has significant ulcer-healing effect, which decreases the offensive factors (acid and pepsin) and increases the defensive factors (mucin, cellular mucus, and life span of mucosal cells). Tinospora cordifolia has ulcer-healing activity, and is used therapeutically in various clinical conditions. Dugdhapashana has ulcer-healing and cytoprotective properties, which are useful in healing peptic ulcers. Mouktika sukti possesses demulcent and anti-inflammatory properties, which relieve the burning pain of peptic ulcers. 2. Antioxidant action: Emblica officinalis, Tinospora cordifolia, and Boerhaavia diffusa have antioxidant activity that protects from free radical scavenging of the gastric mucosa. 3. Antacid and antiflatulent actions: Varatika is an antacid used in the symptomatic treatment of hyperacidity, indigestion, and heartburn. Dugdhapashana is an antacid that complements the actions of other constituents with its cooling and antiflatulent properties. It treats hyperacidity.
