Anti-arthritic action: In a study, the ethanolic extract of the seeds of Moringa oleifera (synonym: Moringa pterygosperma) significantly decreased paw edema volume and arthritic index score, along with a decrease in the serum levels of rheumatoid factor (RF), TNF-α, IL-1, and IL-6 as compared with those in the diseased control group. The treatment also altered oxidative stress in relation to its anti-inflammatory activity. Histopathological observations showed mild or less infiltration of lymphocytes, angiogenesis, and synovial lining thickening. These results prove that Moringa pterygosperma possesses promising anti-arthritic property.
