Anti-inflammatory action: Shilajeet, Eclipta alba, Withania somnifera, and Moringa pterygosperma have strong anti-inflammatory activity. Vitex negundo exhibits anti-inflammatory activity mediated via prostaglandin synthesis-inhibitory and membrane-stabilizing activities. Ocimum sanctum and Tribulus terrestris have COX-inhibitory activity, and control acute and chronic inflammation. Zingiber officinale acts as a potent anti-inflammatory agent due to its COX-1, COX-2, and prostaglandin biosynthesizing protein-inhibitory actions. Its inhibition of the biotransformation of arachidonic acid (AA) is comparable to indomethacin. Mahayograj guggul has a well-established anti-inflammatory effect in joint disorders. 2. Analgesic action: Vitex negundo and Eclipta alba exhibit analgesic activity. Ocimum sanctum exerts analgesic action both centrally as well as peripherally, which involves an interplay between various neurotransmitter systems. Shilajeet acts as a prospective modifier of analgesic tolerance. Mahayograj guggul has a well-established analgesic effect in joint disorders. 3. Antioxidant action: Moringa pterygosperma and Ocimum sanctum have potent antioxidant activity. Tribulus terrestris acts as an antioxidant due to its inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS)-inhibitory activity. Zingiber officinale has an antioxidant effect comparable to ascorbic acid. It lowers lipid peroxidation while maintaining the activities of other antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase). Swarnamakshika bhasma, well-known for its antioxidant action, has a rejuvenating effect.
