Pharmacological Actions of Principal Ingredients 1. Counterirritant action: Gaultheria fragrantissima and Mentha arvensis induce cutaneous vasodilation and alleviate deep-seated pain. Pinus roxburghii extends rubefacient action in various rheumatic conditions such as lumbago, arthritis, and neuralgia. 2. Analgesic action: Rumalaya gel depresses the cutaneous sensory pain receptors and acts directly to diminish or obliterate pain. Cedrus deodara decreases levels of cutaneous sensory pain receptors and reduces pain directly. Gaultheria fragrantissima, Mentha arvensis, Vitex negundo, Boswellia serrata, and Cinnamomum zeylanicum have potent analgesic action that provides great relief in rheumatism, sciatica, and neuralgia. 3. Anti-inflammatory action: Rumalaya gel penetrates the superficial inflamed tissues, increases blood flow to the affected area, and inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory chemomediators. Rumalaya gel reduces the swelling associated with inflammatory conditions. Mentha arvensis, Gaultheria fragrantissima, Pinus roxburghii, Cedrus deodara, and Vitex negundo have potent antiinflammatory action.
