Presentation Aerosol containers of 50 g and 100 g. Pharmacological Actions of Principal Ingredients 1. Analgesic action: Rumalaya Active Spray acts on the cutaneous sensory pain receptors and obliterates pain perception. Menthol in Mentha arvensis has an analgesic property. It induces a cooling sensation by activating TRPM8 (an ion channel in the cold-sensitive peripheral sensory neurons) and exerts a local analgesic effect and hence, is used externally in conditions such as rheumatism, neuralgia, and headaches. Gaultheria fragrantissima contains methyl salicylate, a known analgesic. It is applied externally in rheumatism, sciatica, and neuralgia due to its analgesic property. Cinnamomum camphora is topically used as a rubefacient and mild analgesic. It is used externally for relieving pain and irritation in rheumatism. Piper nigrum and Carum copticum are well-known for their analgesic activity. Psoralea corylifolia has a mild analgesic action and is used as an ingredient in topical applications for relieving pain. 2. Anti-inflammatory action: Psoralea corylifolia, Piper nigrum, and Carum copticum have potent anti-inflammatory action and suppress the level of proinflammatory cytokines. This in turn reduces the swelling associated with inflammatory conditions, helps shorten the recovery time, and increases joint mobility. Piperine, a major constituent of Piper nigrum, has analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities, thus validating its use in various musculoskeletal disorders. Rumalaya® (Active Spray)
