Antitussive action: Adhatoda vasica has antitussive action comparable to that of codeine. Glycyrrhiza glabra is used for treating common cold and cough. Its expectorant and antitussive activities help relieve cough. Onosma bracteatum has antitussive action. 2. Anti-allergic action: Alkaloids from Adhatoda vasica offer protection against allergen-induced respiratory tract obstruction. Glycyrrhiza glabra is a potent inhibitor of 11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, and has been proven beneficial in steroid-dependent asthma. Ocimum sanctum has anti-allergic action. 3. Bronchodilatory action: Solanum xanthocarpum and Adhatoda vasica induce bronchodilation. 4. Mucolytic action: Adhatoda vasica, Viola odorata, and Navasagara have potent mucolytic action.
