Antibacterial action: Azadirachta indica has antibacterial activity against bacteria present in the mouth. Ocimum basilicum, Triphala, Azadirachta indica, Glycyrrhiza glabra, and alkaloids from the leaves of Jasminum grandiflorum possess antibacterial action against certain bacteria that are commonly found in denture-induced stomatitis. 2. Ulcer-healing action: Triphala is rich in tannins and phenolic constituents, which have ulcer-healing property. Glycyrrhiza glabra and Jasminum grandiflorum possess ulcer-healing action. 3. Anti-inflammatory action: The alkaloids of Boerhaavia diffusa possess anti-inflammatory activity. Boerhaavia diffusa helps in preventing recurrent aphthous ulcers. Glycyrrhiza glabra inhibits IgE production, which is responsible for triggering the inflammatory process in the oral mucosa. 4. Analgesic action: The eugenol present in Syzygium aromaticum and Ocimum basilicum has analgesic and mild local anesthetizing effects on sensitive nerve endings, and thus, is helpful in the management of pain associated with mouth ulcers.
