Special Precautions • For dental use only • Children under 6 years of age should use under adult supervision (only a pea-sized amount recommended) Presentation Lamitube of 50 g and 100 g. Pharmacological Actions of Principal Ingredients 1. Antibacterial action: Acacia arabica is reported to have antibacterial and antiprotease activities against periodontal pathogens. Oral care products containing Acacia arabica cause significant clinical improvement in periodontal diseases, which is comparable to that caused by 1% chlorhexidine gel. Mangifera indica and Azadirachta indica are reported to have antibacterial activity against certain periodontal pathogens, and have a favorable effect in controlling the progression of periodontal disease. Studies report that the extract of Mango Seed Kernel exhibits higher antibacterial activity against methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus followed by Escherichia coli and Vibrio vulnificus. The antibacterial activity of mango seed kernel extract is significantly higher than that of commercial antibiotic chloramphenicol. Azadirachta indica is reported to have antiseptic, astringent, and antiulcer activities. It is found to be effective in the treatment of gingivitis and periodontitis. Salvadora persica has potent antimicrobial activity against oral pathogens, namely Streptococcus faecalis and Streptococcus mutans, which are common causes of dental caries, thus preventing gingival and periodontal inflammation. Syzygium aromaticum exhibits potent antiseptic and antimicrobial activities against periodontopathic bacteria like Prevotella intermedia, Prevotella melaninogenica, Pophyromonas gingivalis, Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans, Capnocytophaga gingivalis, and Fusobacterium nucileatum. Eugenol and other components of Syzygium aromaticum (including beta-caryophyllene) combine to make Syzygium aromaticum an antibacterial agent as well as a mild anesthetic, and have often been used in dentistry. Mentha piperita has potent antimicrobial activity and prevents dental biofilm formation. Triphala improves and maintains oral health by its antimicrobial activity. Ananas comosus extract containing bromelain enzyme complex, combined with vancomycin, is effective in inhibiting bacterial growth. Carica papaya contains papain, a proteolytic enzyme, which has bactericidal, bacteriostatic, and antiinflammatory characteristics. 2. Anti-inflammatory action: Salvadora persica has analgesic and anti-inflammatory actions, which contribute to its beneficial role in preventing and treating periodontal diseases, and maintaining oral hygiene.
