In newly detected type 2 diabetes mellitus, Diabecon as a monotherapy, significantly reduces fasting plasma glucose, postprandial glucose, and glycated hemoglobin levels. As an adjuvant to insulin or other oral hypoglycemic agents (OHAs), Diabecon helps in reducing their dosage and prevents the development of tolerance. Diabecon also exerts an insulin-like action. Diabecon has broad-spectrum actions, which include insulin secretagogue and insulinomimetic, antihyperglycemic, α-glucosidase inhibitory, glucose utilization–stimulatory, gluconeogenesis-inhibitory, β-cell repair/regenerative, neuroprotective, oculoprotective, and renoprotective actions. Diabecon also has desirable antihypercholesterolemic, adaptogenic, and antioxidant actions.
