These cruel, disfiguring surgeries cause agonizing pain and distress to the dogs. Surgeries of this kind can lead to the inherent risks of anesthesia, blood loss, and infections. Additionally, these procedures also cause a strong psychologic effect to the dogs. Compassionate veterinarians object to the arbitrary removal of animal body parts that are used for communication, balance, and expression. Currently, many countries have introduced legislation that restricts and even prohibits ear-cropping and tail- docking procedures. Source: PeTA.
